Welcome!
Family and Consumer Science teachers are BUSY! Whether you have a focused course or hit everything in between, it’s likely you are also looking for ways to simplify your systems and streamline your organization to maximize your time.
I certainly felt the same thing when I moved to Family and Consumer Science. I was excited for the change, but quickly realized being a singleton in your building can be challenging. If you have textbooks, they might be extremely outdated. Trying to find resources and ideas just wasn’t as accessible as when I was an 8th grade English or an elementary teacher.
That’s where Taco Bout FACS came in the mix. I knew I couldn’t be the only new face in the FACS world who wanted to reference ideas.
Maybe you’re looking for…
- Fun and engaging lesson plan ideas without a textbook
- Ways to share FACS career clusters with your students
- Cooking labs that include allergy-friendly ideas
- Not your usual simple sewing projects
- Relationship-building ideas to help build career readiness
- Organizational ideas to keep your room running smoothly so your students can take ownership of learning and supplies
If you said “Yes!” to any of the bullet points above, you are in the right place. I am here to help share how I make my Family and Consumer Science classroom fun, engaging, and intentional while making sure I am intentional at school and freeing up my time outside of school for things most important to me.
Here are a few of my core beliefs…
- I believe building relationships is vital for every classroom
- I believe learning should be differentiated while teaching students how to use their strengths (and weaknesses) to be successful
- I believe we must keep finding ways to make our students successful in obtaining and keeping a job by building social skills and problem-solving
- I believe in creating systems and routines to help make the behind-the-scenes work easier in our day-to-day teaching
- I believe in making our job as fun and enjoyable as possible in the ever-changing and demanding world of education
